a good thing about this grip is you pretty much dont have to change your grip to go on backhand

    I have a full western grip ;)

  10. dodododa on August 30th, 2009 10:30 pm

No, you need to hit about 10000 balls with it before you get comfortable.

  11. dodododa on August 30th, 2009 10:30 pm

Wow, I’ve been using a western grip for years and that was the most confusing video I’ve ever seen.

  12. ProfessaBojangles1 on August 30th, 2009 10:30 pm

He’s actually showing you an extreme western grip, any farther and it would be called a Hawaiian (look it up if you don’t believe).

Nadal uses Western but it’s not that extreme, if you look at the slow mo videos on here, it’s halfway between the semi-western and the western in the video.

the bevels explanation should make it easy no?

ive always had trouble understanding, but if u number ur bevels 1-5 and place that bone of the index finger along it and arap it round u have ur grip.

its easy… even for me !

  17. olaraay on August 30th, 2009 10:30 pm

    excellent tutorial about grips

ive always had trouble about grips now I can actually hold a western grip properly, but how can anyone hit a forhand with this shot is beyond me lol

the bevels explanation shows i hit a forehand with a continental grip!, now i know lol

  18. MapleDynasty on August 30th, 2009 10:30 pm

it’s very very very tough to hit a western forehand =.=

  19. Snaurt on August 30th, 2009 10:30 pm

I’m skeptical. I don’t think you or anyone else can hit with a western grip. Prove me wrong. Nadal, for example, uses a semi-western. It is the angle of the wrist that determines the extreme spin, not just the grip. That’s why Federer can hit with heavy topspin with an Eastern grip

  22. venom400 on August 30th, 2009 10:30 pm

I have been playing with a western grip for a long time , and is now natural to me , I play with a six one tour racquet as wierd as that sounds , swing fast as hell and don’t have a problem with my wrist .

Low balls used to be a problem , but just bend your knees a little and extend your arm fully , hit it forward and hard , you can get tons of power this way.
